ABOUT RONGOĀ MAURI

Rongoā Mauri was founded in 2016 by Joanne Hakaraia-Olson and her husband Nick Olson as a whare hauora — a sacred healing space dedicated to restoring balance and wellbeing through the ancient practices of Rongoā Māori. Today, Joanne serves as the kaitohu (spiritual guide and lead practitioner), supported by a small and devoted roopū of healers who are committed to the wairua of this work.

Rooted in tikanga Māori and the intelligence of te taiao (the natural world), our mahi is guided by aroha, intuition, and the mauri of Aotearoa’s native plants. We offer holistic healing for body, mind, and wairua through rongoā rākau (plant medicine), spiritual guidance, and ceremonial practice.

We are proud to be ACC Registered Providers of Rongoā Māori services, offering a range of experiences including healing sessions, immersive forest trails, and transformative wānanga across Aotearoa. Whether you are seeking personal healing, cultural reconnection, or looking to introduce this mātauranga into your workplace or community, we are here to walk alongside you.

Our offerings include:

  • Kaitohu Wairua – Spiritual attunement and intuitive healing workshops

  • Te Ara Tapu – Sacred journeys for wāhine

  • Rongoā Mauri Trails – Guided forest immersions and plant wisdom

  • Te Waka Rākau – Māori Healing Community Clinic (Ranui, West Auckland)

We welcome you to begin the journey of reconnection and healing with us.

Our Tīkanga
Our Core Values

We see rākau as living reflections of ourselves.

How we walk with them, listen to them, and care for them speaks to the heart of who we are.

MAURI

The mauri of rākau is the essence that binds and holds and is woven through our kaupapa.

WHANAUNGATANGA

Strengthening relationships with rākau creates opportunities for us to connect to Papatūānuku.

KAITIAKITANGA

Kaitiakitanga emanates from the puna of whanaungatanga. We become the shelter of the relationship formed by our close connection to rākau and nurturing it. We sustain the knowledge formed between ourselves and rākau. We become kaitiaki and ensure its mauri is preserved.

MANAAKITANGA

When we heal ourselves, we heal Papatūānuku. We raise the mana of rākau by acknowledging its status of tuakana. We elevate rākau with admiration and joy. We understand the mahi that it does for Papatūānuku.

AROHA

Aroha is a force, a breath of liberation.

The mauri of rākau softens the heart to purge that which weighs heavy.

Going deeper into the ngahere is to go deeper into yourself. Aroha is the breath that enables us to enter.

WAIRUATANGA

Wairuatanga is vital to health and wellness. Our physical dimension does not exist without wairuatanga. When we are out of balance we tend to focus on the physical dimension, when our awareness should be on te taha wairua.

KOTAHITANGA

Just like the ngahere, we move and weave together as one. A feeling of unity and peace where there is no separation. It's a dynamic collaboration of everything working together as one.
