MAURIKURA

ONLINE RONGOĀ IMMERSION COURSE

"Māku anō e hanga tōku nei whare
Ko ngā poupou he Mahoe, he Patate,
ko te tāhuhu he Hīnau.
Me whakatupu ki te hua o te rengarenga
Me whakapakari ki te hua o te kawāriki"

I shall build my own house.
The supporting posts will be of māhoe and patatē,
The ridge-pole will be of hīnau.
Raise the people with the fruit of the rengarenga,
And nurture them with the fruit of the kawari

Plants - the Bridge Between Worlds

"If the mauri of the ngahere reflects the mauri of human consciousness, what becomes visible when we listen long to the trees - not to extract knowledge, but to be shaped by it?"

Mauri Kura is an online rongoā immersion exploring healing through relationship with native plants and the living mauri of Papatūānuku. This journey begins with direct connection to rākau, the native plants of Aotearoa — sitting, observing, and listening. Through sustained plant relationship, reflection, and embodied practice, participants are gently guided deeper into the rhythms of whenua, wairua, and self.

As the mauri of the plants supports greater coherence within us, healing unfolds naturally — personally, ancestrally, and collectively. Mauri Kura honours sovereignty, slow learning, and the understanding that reconnection with Papatūānuku is inseparable from individual wellbeing.

Learning Outcomes

By the completion of MAURI KURA, participants will be able to:

  • Build sustained, respectful relationships with rākau through time-based immersion and presence

  • Develop an embodied understanding of mauri as a living, relational force within self, plant, and Papatūānuku

  • Experience increasing coherence within their own mauri through relationship with ngā rākau

  • Engage in reflective journalling to support insight, healing, and integration

  • Recognise emotional, energetic, and behavioural patterns that arise through plant-led engagement

  • Practise deep listening, patience, and presence in relationship with plants and the whenua

  • Understand how connection to Papatūānuku supports personal and collective wellbeing

  • Integrate plant-led insights into daily life in ways that foster alignment and coherence

Graduate Profile

Graduates of Mauri Kura engage with rākau through sustained, respectful relationship grounded in presence, reflection, and time. They understand mauri as a living, relational force within themselves, the plants, and Papatūānuku, and recognise that wellbeing is inseparable from this connection.

Through embodied learning and reflective practice, graduates develop greater coherence within their own mauri. They are able to recognise emotional, energetic, and behavioural patterns that arise through plant-led engagement and respond with awareness, patience, and sovereignty.

Graduates carry forward an integrated understanding of rongoā as a sacred practice rooted in tikanga, whanaungatanga, and reverence for Papatūānuku. They move with deeper alignment — personally, ancestrally, and collectively — understanding that reconnection to whenua supports the coherence of self.

How Learning is Supported

Learning in MAURI KURA unfolds through relationship, reflection, and presence rather than testing or performance. Participants are invited to engage in daily private journalling, supported by guided reflective questions at the end of each puna.

There is no requirement to share personal journal entries. Instead, learning is demonstrated through self-reflection, optional written responses, and self-attested engagement. This approach honours personal sovereignty, emotional safety, and the sacred nature of plant-led healing.

This course supports learning as a lived, embodied process, allowing insight and integration to emerge in each participant’s own time.

TESTIMONIALS

N.SCOTT

“The course was just what I needed during a year where things were not feeling normal. Jo's way of guiding and facilitating our learning of Rongoā by providing a safe space which allowed us to grow within ourselves while connecting to our beautiful Papatūānuku was life changing and so grounding during these strange and changing times!"
