Te Kākano (Awakening the Healer Within) is where the journey begins. Rooted in the wisdom of Rongoā Māori, this wānanga invites participants into a deeper relationship with rākau, Papatūānuku, and the living mauri of the natural world. Like the roots of a tree drawing nourishment from the earth, this level grounds the practitioner in the foundations of healing.
At the heart of this stage is preparing the tinana as the whare kura—the body as the sacred vessel through which healing knowledge and awareness can flow. Through connection with rākau and their mauri, we explore how mamae (illness) begins within the body, both personally and ancestrally, and how these imbalances reveal themselves through the language of the body and the wisdom of rongoā.
Participants will strengthen their relationship with the plants, learning to identify, understand, and apply rongoā used within healing practice. As these relationships deepen, the rākau begin to reveal insights about…
